Cinemalaya 2018: Eddie Garcia, Ai-Ai Delas Alas bag top acting awards

Ai-Ai Delas Alas (left) and Eddie Garcia won Best Actress and Best Actor awards for their impeccable performances in the films “School Service” and “ML,” respectively, during the 14th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.

THE 14TH edition of Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival closed with a bang as veteran actors Eddie Garcia and Ai-Ai Delas Alas drew cheers and standing ovations after bagging the Best Actor and Best Actress awards for their impeccable performances in the films “ML” and “School Service,” respectively.

Seasoned actor Ketchup Eusebio, who also showcased an impressive portrayal of his character in “Mamang,” won Best Supporting Actor.

Therese Malvar, on the other hand, brought home the Best Supporting Actress award for her roles in “Distance” and “School Service.”

Meanwhile, the Carlo Catu-helmed film “Kung Paano Hinihintay Ang Dapithapon” won big in the competition with a total of four awards.

* Best Production Design (Full-length) – Marielle Hizon for Kung Paano Hinihintay Ang Dapithapon

* Best Editing (Full-length) – Mikael Pestano for ML

* Best Cinematography (Full-length) – Neil Daza for Kung Paano Hinihintay Ang Dapithapon

* Best Screenplay (Full-length) – John Carlo Pacala for Kung Paano Hinihintay Ang Dapithapon

* Best Supporting Actor (Full-length) – Ketchup Eusebio for Mamang

* Best Supporting Actress (Full-length) – Therese Malvar for Distance and School Service

* Best Actor (Full-length) – Eddie Garcia for ML

* Best Actress (Full-length) – Ai-Ai Delas Alas for School Service

* Best Director (Full-length) – Che Espiritu for Pan De Salawal

Cultural Center of the Philippines Vice President and Artistic Director Chris Millado also dubbed the past few years and the next years to come as the New Golden Age of Philippine Cinema.

Cinemalaya 2018 also marked a new record as it reportedly had a 25-percent increase in audience and two of the film entries had more than 50 percent of revenue growth. (Push)
