City demolition team head files raps vs resident

BACOLOD City – The City Legal Office’s (CLO) enforcement team head Rey Demisana filed criminal charges against a resident for “light threat” and “resistance to an agent of a person in authority.”

The charges were filed at the City Prosecutor’s Office last week against Junjun Meniao, 31, of Barangay 6, who is detained at Police Station 2.

The complaint stemmed from an incident during a demolition of illegal structures in Barangay 2 on Friday, July 28.

Demisana said while members of the demolition team were clearing 32 houses at Mambuloc Creek, Meniao allegedly came to the site and asked why they destroyed the jetmatic public pump, which was the water source for residents in the area.

Meniao was allegedly coming at Demisana armed with a stone and challenging the latter to a fight.

According to Demisana, before they began working, they clarified to the residents that the city would fix any property if there were things damaged that were not part of the demolition.

Demisana also clarified that Meniao was not among the informal settler families (ISFs) affected by the demolition.

In July, the CET started clearing operations at the Mambuloc Creek, covering barangays 2 and 6. The CLO earlier issued a Notice to Vacate to 32 affected ISFs who will also each receive P10,000 financial assistance./PN
