ILOILO City – To strengthen its campaign against illegal parking, the city government plans to tap the services of a towing company through a public-private partnership (PPP).
“Once it is finalized with the PPP Committee, may ara kita partner para sa towing,” said Mayor Jerry Treñas.
The Iloilo City Clamping/Towing Ordinance allows the city government to engage a third party.
“Hatag ta na lang sa private sector para mas madasig ang pag-obra,” said Treñas.
However, he stressed that the city government will continue to call the attention of violators.
Illegal parking remains a problem in this southern city. Over the weekend, Treñas directed the Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO) to apprehend violators.
“We need to ensure that there is clear respect for all city ordinances. Furthermore, all national roads are no parking areas under national laws,” he stressed.
Engaging the private sector to solve the problem is just one of the measures of the city government to further improve traffic management.
Recently, traffic personnel underwent a retraining and capability building with the Metro Manila Development Authority and University of the Philippines – Philippine Center for Transportation Studies.
Treñas said there might be a need, too, to reorganize the PSTMO.
“Lantawon ta basi kinanglan gid sang organization changes. Kis-a tama ka daku, we have to really cut it down to size para mas effective,” he said./PN
