ILOILO City – The city government mulls partnering with the Villar Foundation for a plastic-to-chair project.
According to Joren Santorio, chief of the General Services Office (GSO), the Villar Foundation has such livelihood project and the city government is interested.
The city government may supply the waste plastics from the city’s sanitary landfill to the foundation.
“Ang plastic wastes nga ginahaboy sa aton sanitary landfill can still be useful. These can be processed into plastic chairs,” said Santorio.
To produce one chair, around 40 kilos of plastic are needed.
“This plastic waste recycling project will also make us compliant sa Republic Act 9003 or the law on solid waste management,” said Sartorio.
One of the proposals is that for every two chairs produced, one will go to the makers as his/her share while the other one will go to the city, added the GSO chief.
“I-distribute ta sa mga schools. With this, maka-reduce ini sang aton need for appropriation para ibakal sang siya,” said Santorio.
City government representatives will be discussing this further with the Villar Foundation.
“This is very positive and beneficial indi lang sa gobyerno, sa eskwelahan but also sa aton environment,” said Santorio./PN
