BACOLOD City – The city government has contracted a company to regularly collect trash across the metropolis. But not all of the garbage are collected. Why?
Trucks hauling garbage cannot penetrate narrow streets, explained Ma. Fe Tresfuentes, executive assistant on solid waste management.
The trucks are owned by the garbage collection contractor, Enviroking Corp.
Also, said Tresfuentes, some residents do not observe the collection time of Enviroking.
They dispose their garbage anytime at their own convenience and worse, some do not bother to pack their garbage so these would not scatter, she said.
“Enviroking has a pick-up time in every area. If residents cannot dispose their garbage during the pick-up time, their trash will likely be collected the next day,” said Tresfuentes.
Acting Vice Mayor Greg Gasataya has called the attention of Enviroking regarding uncollected garbage in some major streets, and summoned Tresfuentes on the matter.
“We will check on Monday if those areas would be clear of garbage already,” said Gasataya.
One area he mentioned was Yulo’s Park where some residents of barangays 14 and 16 dispose their trash.
Tresfuentes told Gasataya that the Solid Waste Management Board designed a new scheme – zonal garbage collection – to address the clamor of city residents on the “irregular” garbage collection of Enviroking.
