BACOLOD City – The city government here, in cooperation with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), will monitor and inspect all business establishments involved in refilling butane canisters with liquified petroleum gas (LPG) and its sale.
City legal officer Romeo Carlos Ting Jr. confirmed this following a series of reported fire incidents this month.
“Damu reported nga sunog; isa sa na-consider nga halinan ang mga butane. Gusto ni Mayor (Alfredo Abelardo Benitez) nga i-regulate ang pagbaligya sang butane,” he said.
Just this December, there were seven reported fire incidents in this city. Five were residential, while the other two were an office and a storage facility.
Ting said LPG should be sold by registered suppliers only.
He added that personnel from the Business Permits and Licensing Office, the City Legal Office, and the BFP will confiscate the refilled butane canisters if found during inspections.
The market personnel were also advised to monitor and inspect.
It was learned that the city had an ordinance prohibiting the hazardous practice of refilling butane canisters with LPG. An administrative fine of P3,000 will be imposed on violators (haulers) of the proposed ordinance; a P5,000 fine for the vehicle used for the commission of the offense; and another P5,000 fine for the owner of the property or outlet dispensing or refilling butane canisters./PN
