City hall brings services closer to residents

A senior citizen from Barangay Tanza Bonifacio, Iloilo City cries after receiving her senior citizen’s identification card and booklet from Mayor Jose Espinosa III. “It’s fulfilling for us in the city government to serve people, especially those in great need,” said Espinosa as the city government’s community outreach program “Pag-ulikid sang Syudad” served an estimated 14,500 more people in four barangays in Molo district and the City Proper over the weekend.

ILOILO City – “It’s fulfilling for us in the city government to serve people, especially those in great need.”

This Mayor Jose Espinosa III stressed as the city government’s community outreach program “Pag-ulikid sang Syudad” served an estimated 14,500 more people in four barangays in Molo district and the City Proper over the weekend.

In Molo, over 4,500 residents in the village of San Pedro availed themselves of free city government services such as medical checkup, tooth extraction and circumcision.

“This has never been done before,” said Espinosa.

Identification cards for senior citizens and persons with disabilities were also freely distributed, while those with concerns over their birth certificates were accommodated. Dogs were neutered or injected with anti-rabies vaccines.

In Barangay North Baluarte, Molo some 3,000 people were similarly served.

From Molo, the city government team moved to the City Proper and reached out to over 5,000 residents of Barangay Monica Blumentritt and 2,000 more in Barangay Tanza Bonifacio.

A brainchild of Espinosa, “Pag-ulikid” brings the city government’s frontline programs, projects and services closer to the villages.

Ang aton serbisyo derekta sa pumoluyo. Amo ‘na ang name,” said Espinosa.

The city government departments actively participating are the City Health Office, Office of Senior Citizens Affairs, City Veterinarian’s Office, and City Civil Registry Office.

“Gakadto kami sa barangay para magserbisyo. So updi niyo lang ako kay madamo pa kita mga butang nga mahimo,”  said Espinosa.

The community outreach program also offers free legal consultation, sports equipment and wheelchairs for the elderly and persons with disabilities.

“Many of our constituents find it hard to go to city hall. We are thus bringing the city government to them,” said Espinosa./PN
