City hall rice allowance aborted

ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas announced yesterday that the rice allowance for city hall employees will not push through.

Treñas said the city government was ready for the procurement but the National Food Authority (NFA) informed the city government it does not have the supply for the purpose.

“The rice allowance is not convertible to cash, and further it was provided that it will be procured from the NFA,” the city mayor explained.

He also ordered City Administrator Melchor Tan to release the letter of the NFA first thing today for transparency.

“We do not scrimp on the benefits of the employees,” he added.

It was December last year when the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved Supplemental Budget No. 6 amounting to P178.5 million for the regular city government employees’ service recognition incentive (SRI) and 25-kilo one-time rice assistance.

Job hires and contract of service (CoS) employees were also included to receive the rice aid.

The city government has 1,859 regular employees and 4,900 job hires and CoS workers.

The SRI and rice allowance are in compliance with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s administrative orders last year granting SRI to employees of the executive department and one-time rice allowance for all government personnel./PN
