ILOILO City – An entry from the Iloilo City National High School won the 2016 Adolescent Health and Youth Development (AHYD) Film Festival organized by the Commission on Population (PopCom) Region 6.
“Anggulo” will compete with other regional entries in the National Adolescent Health and Development Program Film Festival in Manila in December.
Themed “Kabataan, Kalusugan, Kalikasan: Magka-ugnay,” the AHYD Film Festival wanted to raise youth awareness on the interrelation of population, health and environment through filmmaking.
It was also based on the result of a recent Young Adult Fertility and Sexuality Study that showed young people in Western Visayas are digitally wired — meaning they access and use new media for information and entertainment — PopCom said.
Seven groups of filmmakers from Panay and Guimaras islands participated.
Their films “[portrayed] the interrelatedness of population, health and environment and how it affects people’s lives, and how young people play a vital role in answering different population-related issues,” said PopCom.
“Patente” of Antique National School won second place and “Uring” of Passi National High School, third place.
Other entries were “Akoa na Bala” from Iloilo province, “Dream House” from Capiz, “Mulat” from Guimaras, and “Sa Puso ng Basura” from Aklan.
“Anggulo,” the first placer, was directed by Alexerna M. Vinson and written by Christina D. Apines. Cyril Dagoco-Rayos was their coach.
The Iloilo City government, through the City Population Office headed by Mary Ann Ramos, supported the group.
It will receive a P30,000 cash prize and a plaque of recognition from PopCom Region 6. Antique, on the other hand, will get P15,000 and the plaque, while Passi City will have P10,000 and a similar plaque.
Regional Director Harold Alfred P. Marshall said PopCom Region 6 will use the films “as an advocacy tool in the promotion and improvement of the total well-being of the young people.” (With PopCom Region 6/PN)
