City in Ilocos Sur asks for COVID jabs from Iloilo

ILOILO City — The city of Candon in Ilocos Sur is requesting from the city government here 3,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Candon City’s Mayor Ericson Singson wrote this city’s Mayor Jerry Treñas a letter making such a request after learning from the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) that the city government of Iloilo is donating 60,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines to fellow cities ramping up their vaccination efforts.

According to Singson, their city does not only cater to Candon residents but also to residents of nearby municipalities who wish to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in their city.

“The free vaccines will be a big help for us to speed up our vaccination efforts to reach our 100 percent target herd immunity,” he wrote Treñas.

Earlier, the provincial government of Isabela through Gov. Rodolfo Albano III also asked Iloilo City for COVID-19 vaccines, specifically 20,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines.

According to Treñas, the vaccines will be sent to recipients local government units after he secures an authority from the Sangguniang Panlungsod./PN
