City needs 650 signages for ‘enhanced’ LPTRP implementation

ILOILO City – At least 650 thermoplastic signages are still needed in the city’s ongoing preparation for the implementation of its enhanced Local Public Transport Route Plan (LPTRP) next year.

Mayor Jerry Treñas said the city government will tap the help of the business sector to complete the signages.

“So far ang mga [transport] cooperatives maamot sang 200 [signages]. Ti kita mangita man kita through the business community kay kon gastohan ta ni, ka daku gid. Ngita naman ta kwarta. So kon ano na da ‘bi nga mga negosyo, butang lang nila gamay nila nga ngalan dason ipa-plastar ta na because 650 [signages] ang kinanglan ta,” Treñas said.

The city mayor added that designated jeepney stops need to be marked and they are still working on it.

Kinanglan ta markahan ang dalan kon diin ang mga jeepney stops. So damo pa sang kinanglan ta but we met the last time and daw naplastar naman namon kung paano,” he said.

Treñas also mentioned that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) doesn’t have materials for thermoplastic signages.

“Ang DPWH gapangampo, waay sila kuno sang materials para sa thermoplastic nga signages. So ang city lang anay ang ma-provide and then hopefully by next year, basi may ara na ang DPWH kundi mas madasig ang aton obra,” the city mayor said.

The city government initially designated 28 of the 850 loading/unloading bays in major streets earlier this month.

Jeck Conlu, head of the city government’s Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO), has announced that the enhanced LPTRP is set to roll out in the first quarter of 2024.

Given the upcoming holiday season, everyone is preoccupied, Conlu pointed out.

“The remaining months of 2023 are dedicated to gearing up for the full-scale implementation in January next year,” he added./PN
