ILOILO City – Ilonggos enrolled in the city’s rehabilitation program were introduced to a more active lifestyle as Crossroads: Sports for Change concluded Wednesday with cagers from City Proper taking home the basketball championship at the Barangay Katilingban covered gym.
Molo spikers claimed the volleyball crown in the program encouraging those under rehab to engage in physical activities such as team sports.
Crossroads: Sports for Change seeks to develop the self-confidence of participants and at the same time provide enjoyment and laughter to their families, who cheer for them during the games, said the organizers of the tournament that kicked off in December last year.
The participants were from seven districts. Organizers see physical activity as essential in drug rehabilitation.
City Proper emerged victorious in basketball to come out as the very first Sports for Change champion, with Molo and Mandurriao coming in at second and third places, respectively.
In volleyball, Molo took home the gold. It was followed by City Proper and Lapuz.
Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Vice Mayor Jose Espinosa III, chairman of the Iloilo City Sports Council, led the awarding ceremony.
Crossroads: Sports for Change is a public-private partnership between Iloilo City and the APEX Club of Iloilo, which provided new basketballs and volleyballs for the sporting events./PN
