ILOILO City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) encourages residents, businesses and government offices to fulfil their civic duty of keeping this southern city clean.
“Clean as you go,” it reminded them in Resolution No. 2019-654 authored by Councilor Rudolph Jeffrey Ganzon and approved late last year.
In support of the resolution, city government officials led by Mayor Jerry Treñas signed a “commitment of support” after Monday’s flag-raising ceremony in front of city hall.
“Clean as you go” or CLAYGO is a practice or policy of keeping one’s area clean and tidy at all times.
The SP resolution encourages people to make cleaning a habit to avoid relying on street sweepers, janitors, city cleaners, waiters and waitresses to clean surroundings/premises.
People should take part in the cleaning process, it stressed.
Citing Section 1 of Presidential Decree No. 825, the SP also encourages schools, commercial and industrial establishments such as hotels, restaurants, hospitals, cinema houses, public markets, department stores, groceries, food chains, kiosks, and workplaces to provide sufficient trash bins and other facilities intended for clean-up.
The public, whether locals and tourists, are also encouraged to dispose their garbage properly in trash bins to ensure a safe, healthy and cleaner environment./PN
