Civilian vs policeman

BACOLOD City – An argument between a police officer and a civilian in Barangay Estefania around 6:20 p.m. on Nov. 14 turned violent.

Forty-eight-year-old Staff Sergeant Benjie Giron of Police Station 6 died. His service firearm went off during a grappling for the weapon with 27-year-old Regie Buatag of Silay City, Negros Occidental.

It was unclear as of this writing what the two men were arguing about but witnesses claimed seeing Buatag drawing out a knife first.

This prompted Giron to draw out his service firearm, they said, and grappling ensued.

Giron died of a gunshot wound in the abdomen at the Metro Bacolod Hospital and Medical Center.

Responding cops took Buatag to Police Station 4./PN
