ILOILO City – Mayor Jerry P. Treñas approved the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office to suspend face-to-face classes in all levels for both public and private educational institutions today due to anticipated persistent rainfall.
The city hall flag ceremony is likewise cancelled while the use of biometrics is waived in consideration of employees affected by flooding.
According to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC), citing available data and observations, Iloilo City will continue to experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms today.
For its part, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) projects light to moderate with at times heavy rains today due to the southwest monsoon enhanced by Tropical Storm “Talim” (local name: “Dodong”), and there is up to 35 percent chance of a 10 to 20 10 to 20mm rainfall rainfall accumulation.
As of 6 p.m. yesterday, the EOC recorded a total of 20 flooded barangays in the city.
Treñas said the barangay DRRM committees and general public are advised to heed the risks posed by the continuous flooding in low lying areas such leptospirosis, acute gastroenteritis, and contamination of deep wells, among others./PN
