KALIBO, Aklan – Twelve classrooms at Kalibo Elementary School and 13 at the Kalibo Integrated Special Education Center in Barangay Poblacion were converted into quarantine facilities.
This aims to decongest the existing quarantine facilities of cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
On Aug. 17, four COVID-19 patients were isolated at Kalibo Elementary School, according to Mayor Emerson Lachica.
Twenty-three more classrooms at Kalibo Pilot Elementary School were being eyed as quarantine facilities.
The isolation facilities at Ati-Atihan County Inn in Barangay Poblacion, The Premiere Business Hotel in Barangay Andagao and the Tigayon regional evacuation center are reaching full capacity, prompting the municipal government to seek assistance from the Department of Education.
DepEd regional office approved the request of Lachica and the Municipal Inter-Agency Task Force to temporarily utilize classrooms.
“Malaki ang maitutulong ng mga classrooms, lalo na sa mga gastusin natin sa quarantine facilities,” said Lachica.
Kalibo so far has reported 233 active COVID-19 cases and 100 fatalities on Aug. 18.
The Sangguniang Bayan of Kalibo thanked DepEd regional office and Aklan Division Office for allowing the use of public schools as quarantine areas./PN
