Bacolod City – The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) here urged the local government unit to continue the road clearing operations in the city.
DILG city director Maredith Madayag encouraged the 61 barangay captains and other concerned offices to follow the government’s program during a meeting here on Jan. 9, saying the road-clearing operation is one of the primary responsibilities of every village chief.
“They have to prepare for another round of validation. Wala pa man schedule but anytime they should prepare kay pangayuan sila sang ila fourth quarter nga 2019 accomplishment report,” Madayag said.
She added most of the residents have complained of illegal parking.
“Dapat bantayan gid ang mga na-clear nga roads,” Madayag said, adding barangay officials should submit their monthly report to the local government.
Aside from illegal parking, other major obstructions the residents were complaining for, according to Madayag, were the occurrence of erring vendors or street dwellers, the barangay structures and outpost situated on sidewalks and on public roads and alleys, store and house encroachments, and garbage dumps.
Meanwhile, the City Engineer’s Office has planned to rehabilitate the reclaimed roads to keep it free from any obstructions, Madayag said.
“Based on the validation report dated Oct. 18, 2019 of the DILG, the city achieved 87 percent, equivalent to medium compliance. This is composed of percentages of some barangays falling below 87 percent,” she added.
“Let our 2019 performance be our inspiration to sustain our performance this 2020,” said Mayor Evelio Leonardia.
He added the city government is allocating P150 million this year for the concreting of roads, including the rehabilitation of those affected by the clearing operations./PN
