BACOLOD City – The City Engineer’s Office (CEO) here has started clearing the portion of the city’s Central Public Market gutted by fire on December 13.

This comes after the approval of the Commission on Audit (COA) to rehabilitate the affected area of the market.

City Administrator Lucel Gelvolea said prior to the clearing, the city’s Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) conducted an assessment of the area and the affected stall owners were also informed of the clearing operation.

Gelvolea said the CEO will assess the cost of the rehabilitation and make a recommendation to the City Mayor’s Office for a budget allocation.

As of this writing, the city government was still looking for a relocation site for the affected stall owners once the rehabilitation work starts.

Earlier, it was reported that the stall owners will be temporarily transferred to Bonifacio Street but the area was deemed not suited for businesses like grocery stores and tailoring.

To recall, almost 42 stall owners were affected by fire early morning of December 13.

The fire was electrical in nature and damage was pegged at over P4.7 million, according to the BFP./PN
