MANILA – Kiefer Ravena and Kobe Paras are set to lead Gilas Pilipinas in the 2017 William Jones Cup from July 15 to 23 in Taiwan.
Both represented the Philippines in the FIBA 3×3 World Cup in Nantes, France recently.
Ravena and Paras will be an added boost to the Filipino basketball squad comprising Gilas Cadets in the Taipei tournament.
Also in the lineup are Filipino-German Christian Standhardinger, Raymar Jose and Mike Myers, who was tapped by TNT Katropa as standby import in the ongoing 2017 Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
Roger Pogoy, Jiovani Jalalon, Matthew Wright, Chris Michael Tolomia, Eduardo Daquioag, Carl Bryan Cruz, Kevin Ferrer, Alfonzo Gotladera, and Von Pessumal are already in the lineup.
The Jones Cup is the final test that will determine if Ravena and Paras are worthy to be included in the Philippine team that will compete in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games, said Gilas head coach Vincent “Chot” Reyes.
The Philippines is the defending champion in the annual tournament. Mighty Sports-Pilipinas — led by American imports — dominated the field with a sweep last year.
The Taipei showpiece will have Gilas taking on tough teams including Iran, Korea, Japan, India, Iraq, Taipei A and B, as well as club teams from Lithuania and Canada./PN
