Coconut, mango top ‘other crops’ 3-year yield in Guimaras 

GUIMARAS – Sharing about three-quarters of the total “other crops” yield, coconut and mango consistently drove up the total production for three consecutive years, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

“Coconut and mango got a large share of 71.91 percent in 2020, 71.55 percent in 2021, and 72.45 percent in 2022 in the total yield of other crops,” said Provincial Statistics Officer Nelida B. Losare.

PSA data also showed the combined production of coconut and mango reaching 51,286.26 metric tons (MT) in 2020, with an increment of 11.34 percent (57,104.51 MT) in 2021, and further growing by 4.58 percent (59,721.96 MT) in 2022.

The total production of other crops in 2020 reached 71,314.17 MT, posted an increase of 11.91 percent (79,809.18 MT) in 2021, and a 3.27 percent (82,418.05 MT) growth in 2022, Losare added.

Other crops that constantly ranked in the top 20 from 2020 to 2022 in Guimaras were calamansi, sweet potato/camote, jackfruit (young), cassava, cashew, string beans, squash fruit, malunggay leaves, eggplant, alogbati, jackfruit (ripe), ampalaya fruit, rice hay, and green papaya.

“Swamp cabbage/kangkong and coconut sap/tuba only appeared in the top 20 in 2020 and were outranked by the papaya (ripe variety) and taro gabi in 2021 and 2022”, said Losare. (PSA-Guimaras)/PN
