BACOLOD City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Negros Occidental announced yesterday morning that certificate of candidacy (COC) forms for the Oct. 30 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections are now available online.
The forms can be downloaded from Comelec’s official website but filing should still be made before the local election officers in every town or city in the province, said Comelec-Negros Occidental elections supervisor Atty. Ian Lee Ananoria.
Only applications for the election gun ban exemption can be submitted to the Comelec online.
The filing of COCs is from Aug. 28 to Sept. 2.
The 10-day campaign period is from Oct. 19 to 28.
According to Ananoria, he will attend a meeting with Comelec Region 6 officials to prepare the regulations for the convening of the Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC).
The RJSCC meeting, meanwhile, will take place this month prior to the start of the COC filing.
The provincial elections supervisor also issued a reminder that barangay and SK polls are non-partisan, and the mayors cannot endorse candidates.
However, he pointed out that it cannot be avoided that some friends or personal acquaintances of the mayors or any other politicians may still provide support. (Watchmen Daily Journal)
