ILOILO City – With the May 12 national and local elections just a month away, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Region 6 has confirmed it is fully prepared to oversee a smooth and orderly voting process.
In a press conference held by the Regional Joint Security Coordinating Center (RJSCC), Comelec-6 director Atty. Dennis Ausan assured the public that the poll body has completed all necessary preparations, including security coordination, personnel training, and logistical arrangements.
“Comelec is 100 percent ready for the upcoming elections. We have met all our preparatory deadlines, from finalizing the training of electoral board members to coordinating with service providers for election paraphernalia delivery,” said Ausan.
The RJSCC, composed of the Comelec, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), is responsible for ensuring the safety and integrity of the elections. Ausan said efforts are now focused on fine-tuning logistical and security measures as the election day approaches.
A key topic during the RJSCC meeting was ensuring the timely transport and deployment of election materials to remote areas, as well as addressing security concerns in regions with histories of election-related violence.
On the security front, Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) assured the public that adequate police personnel are in place to secure the elections across Western Visayas.
“We are confident that we can maintain peace and order throughout the region during the elections,” said PRO-6 director Brigadier General Jack Wanky.
“We now have a fresh batch of police graduates who will support our operations, so no additional forces from other regions are necessary,” he said.
Wanky added that police presence will be enhanced not only at polling centers but also in areas identified as needing closer security monitoring. He reiterated PRO-6’s commitment to providing a secure environment for voters and election workers.
With strong collaboration between Comelec and law enforcement agencies, both Ausan and Wanky expressed optimism that the May 2025 elections in Western Visayas will be peaceful, credible, and efficient.
“We are taking every measure to ensure that there are no major disruptions as we approach election day,” Ausan assured the public.
Comelec-6 is also advising voters to verify their polling precincts and follow election guidelines to help ensure a smooth voting experience./PN
