Comelec-Bacolod flexes ‘Operation: Baklas’

BY DOMINIQUE GABRIEL G. BAÑAGA

BACOLOD City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here said over the weekend it lost count of the many oversized campaign materials its personnel have seized in line with “Operation: Baklas.”

Comelec-Bacolod acting elections supervisor Atty. Revo Sorbito said their operation continues specifically on campaign materials of candidates running for national positions.

The campaign materials they are removing are also not only the oversized but also those placed in areas outside the designated common poster areas.

Even if the campaign materials are installed in private properties such as homes, commercial establishments, and vacant lots, they are not exempted from the rules, Sorbito added.

However, prior to the removal of campaign materials in private properties, Sorbito said they will first send a letter to the property owners informing them of the regulations under  Comelec Resolution No. 10730 dated Nov. 17, 2021, which in turn is set in Republic Act 9006 or the Fair Elections Act.

According to Sorbito, campaign posters must not exceed two feet by three feet, and three feet by eight feet for backdrops during political rallies.

The size is based on Section 6 of C omelec Resolution No. 10730.

Sorbito also advised supporters of political candidates to follow the elections rules.

The campaign for local candidates will begin on March 25, 2022./PN
