BACOLOD City – Over a month after the voter registration by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) reopened, its Bacolod City office has received more than 9,000 applications.
From February 12 to March 18, the number of applicants reached 9,823, based on the record of the city Comelec.
This is expected to still increase as registration will run until Sept. 30.
Comelec Officer Kathrina Trinio-Caña encouraged those who want to register to come to their office as soon as possible and not to wait for the deadline.
Over the Holy Week, Trinio-Caña clarified that they are open only until March 27 and will resume office on April 1.
The satellite registration schedule, meanwhile, is as follows:
* March 22 – Barangay Felisa at Felisa Gymnasium
* March 23 – Barangay Taculing at Gonzaga Gymnasium
* April 6 – Barangay Villamonte at Villamonte Barangay Gymnasium
*April 13 – Barangay Singcang-Airport at J.R. Torres Elementary School Covered Court
* April 20 – Barangay Tangub at Barangay Gymnasium (Ramylu Drive).
Residents of the said barangays can file their application for registration, transfer, reactivation, and correction of entry.
No registration shall be conducted at the Comelec office during the satellite registration schedule, the Comelec officer said.
Trinio-Caña disclosed that of the eight satellite registration areas they have conducted previously, Barangay Mansilingan has the highest number of applicants, recording 625.
On the other hand, any individual who would like to file an opposition against any of the applications filed for voter registration has until April 12.
An Election Registration Board hearing will be held on April 15 for the first quarter schedule of the Comelec./PN
