BACOLOD City – The Barangay Board of Canvassers (BBC) reconvened on Friday, May 31, at the Mabini Elementary School in Barangay 21 in this city.
This comes after the Commission on Elections (Comelec) en banc ordered to correct the error committed during the canvassing of votes in Barangay 21 for the October 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
The office of the Comelec-Bacolod City received the resolution from the Comelec en banc that approved the petition of the BBC to correct the above error.
City Comelec Officer Kathrina Trinio-Caña said it affected the ranking of numbers 1, 2 and 3 barangay councilors.
Based on the certificate of canvass of votes and proclamation of winning candidates dated Oct. 30, 2023 signed by the BBC, Gloria Rife was ranked No. 1 with 204 votes. After verification, it turned out she only had 184 votes, resulting in her current rank at No. 3.
Roter Anoran was the new No. 1 councilor, from no. 2 rank, with 187 votes, followed by Roselyn Moncera, previously the No. 3 councilor, with 185 votes.
The BBC filed the petition at the Comelec en banc on November 2023 after one of the winning candidates informed the BBC that there was an error on the election results.
It was learned that the BBC also served as electoral board members.
“Nag-counting pa sila. After counting nag-convene. Ang BBC mahimu nga nakapoy kag natuyo na,” Trinio-Caña further explained./PN
