Comelec: Follow rules on campaign materials

ILOILO City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reminded candidates in the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections to follow the rules in regulations governing campaign materials.

The campaign period officially started yesterday. The last day of campaigning is May 12.

According to Iloilo provincial election supervisor Atty. Elizabeth Doronila, posters have a maximum size of only two feet by three feet and must be displayed only in Comelec-designated common posters areas.

Posters must also state the name of the printers and the ones who paid for them.

“Posters may be displayed in private properties but the candidates must ask the permission of the owners,” said Doronila.

On the other hand, campaign stickers or fliers must not exceed the size of 8 ½ inches x 14 inches and these must bear the names of the printers and the ones who paid for them, said Doronila.

This information must be included by the candidate, too, in filing his Statement of Contributions and Expenditures (SOCE) after the election.

Doronila also said candidates are prohibited from “sponsoring” meals on election day.

Candidates violating campaign rules and regulations risk being charged with committing election offences, she said./PN
