ILOILO City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) here heightens its advocacy for qualified registrants to enlist by holding a fun run, satellite registration, and Register Anywhere Program this Saturday, August 24.

“The purpose is to boost registration for us to reach more voters and for the public to be aware that the last day of registration is on Sept. 30,” Comelec-Iloilo City Assistant Officer II Jonathan Sayno said.

The one-day “Takbo ng Bawat Juan Para sa Halalan” at the activity center of the Atria Park in Mandurriao district targets to cater to around 400 registrants.

Sayno said they wanted to reach more qualified voters, although they have almost reached their target of 15,000 new registrants since the registration resumed in February this year.

Iloilo City has 319,294 registered voters as of June, lower than the 333,470 during the previous elections.

Sayno attributed the decline in registered voters to the cleansing process, where around 25,000 were deactivated.

Meanwhile, Sayno said the Register Anywhere Program (RAP) will be until Aug. 30.

“It is one month ahead of the regular deadline of the voter’s registration, which is Sept. 30,” he said, adding that more registrants availed of the RAP because of the comfort it offers. (PNA)
