Comelec postpones proclamation anew

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) once again postponed the scheduled proclamation of the winning senators and party-list representatives on Tuesday.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said the postponement was due to the continuous canvassing of votes from Saudi Arabia and they were waiting for the election returns from Washington expected to arrive last night.

“In order to make sure na wala nang movement sa rankings ng elected officials natin, we need to get that squared away,” Jimenez said. “What do we say to the gods of proclamation? Not today.”

“Election officials in Washington were waiting for returns from Los Angeles, but we can’t get in touch with them, that’s why we’re seeing this delay,” he added. “A partial proclamation at this point is still not being considered.”

It was the second time the Comelec’s scheduled proclamation was postponed as the poll body waited to finish all the election returns to determine the composition of winners among party-list representatives.

Based on the partial and official count, Cynthia Villar and Grace Poe continued to hold on the top two spots followed by former special assistant to the president Bong Go, Taguig representative Pia Cayetano and former Philippine National Police chief Ronald dela Rosa.

Also in the “Magic 12” were Juan Edgardo “Sonny” Angara, Manuel “Lito” Lapid, Imee Marcos, Francis Tolentino, Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel, Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., and Nancy Binay. /PN
