BACOLOD City – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is investigating the issue concerning allegedly unpaid support staff who served during the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections in the cities of Kabankalan and Himamaylan in Negros Occidental province.
Atty. Dennis Ausan, director of Comelec – Western Visayas, confirmed the report. However, he did not disclose the number of support staff hired in Himamaylan City.
Ausan said the formal investigation in both cities has concluded and is awaiting the decision of the Comelec central office regarding their report.
In a statement last week, Comelec said the honoraria of 660 support staff in Kabankalan City is pending at the central office.
Ausan added that the possible administrative and criminal liabilities of the election officers assigned to the two local government units are yet to be determined. (Watchmen Daily Journal)/PN
