Comelec reg’l, city, prov’l offices soon under one roof

ILOILO City – The regional, Iloilo city and provincial offices of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) will soon be housed in one integrated building in Barangay San Pedro, Molo district.

Under a lease agreement, the integrated office would be erected on the more or less 1,200 square meters of lot owned by the city government, said Jonathan Sayno, city assistant election officer.

The lease is good for 50 years and renewable.

“Hopefully sa sunod nga election didto na kita,” Sayno said.

Construction of the building will start next year with an P80-million budget, he added.

Currently, the Comelec regional office is located in Jaro district, the Iloilo provincial office in La Paz district here while the city Comelec is on the second floor of the Iloilo Terminal Market.

Sayno said the would-be location of the integrated Comelec building would give more convenience to the public.

It is also near the commission’s warehouse (bodega) where ballot boxes and other election paraphernalia are being kept./PN
