ILOILO CITY – Voter registration for the 2022 national and local elections will resume beginning Jan. 20, announced the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Western Visayas.
According to Comelec assistant regional director Atty. Tomas Valera, the system of continuing registration would run for 21 months from Jan. 20, 2020 to Sept. 30, 2021.
Registration should be done personally at the city or municipality’s office of the election officer from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays.
Based on Comelec Resolution No. 10635, the poll body said the new registration period will cover the following:
* Applications for registration
* Transfer of registration records
* Change or correction of entries in the registration record
* Reactivation of registration record
* Reinstatement of name in the list of voters
“As usual masunod kita sa schedule nga ginpanaog sang Comelec-central office. Open ang aton tanan nga municipal and city election offices sa pagbaton sang application for registration starting on Jan. 20,” Valera told Panay News on Saturday.
Those who will be at least 18 years of age on or before Election Day, or on May 9, 2022, who is a resident in the Philippines for at least one year and in the place where he or she intends to vote for at least six months on or before Election Day, may register.
Persons with disabilities, senior citizens, as well as members of indigenous peoples or indigenous cultural communities and other members of vulnerable sectors may also update their records.
Registered voters as of the May 13, 2019 midterm elections need not apply anew.
Meanwhile, there will be no voter registration in 23 municipalities of Palawan in view of the plebiscite set on May 11 for the ratification of Republic Act 11259 which divides it into three separate provinces — Palawan del Norte, Palawan Oriental and Palawan del Sur.
Valera urged those qualified not to wait for the deadline but visit early its office to register in preparation for the national and local elections two years from now./PN
