KALIBO, Aklan – The applications of some 1,371 new voters in Malay, Aklan will be reviewed in relation to a complaint from a resident in Barangay Balabag, Boracay Island.
The Commission on Elections municipal office said the new voters will be made to answer questions on Oct. 25 to ensure their integrity.
“Each of the 1,371 voters will be asked to explain why they have decided to vote in Malay,” said Comelec-Malay spokesman Atty. Rommel Benliro stressed.
On Sept. 30, the Comelec office in Malay was swamped by new voter applicants who want to register in Boracay.
The reason behind this was a rumor that people who are not registered as Boracay voters won’t be allowed to work in the famous holiday island once it reopens.
The Balabag complainant will also attend the hearing on Oct. 25.
“Comelec-Malay together with the representative from the Department of Education will then decide whether to approve their application for change of polling precinct or not,” Benliro said./PN
