ILOILO City – The vaccination against coronavirus disease (COVID-19) of children here aged five to 11 years old will start soon.
According to Mayor Jerry Treñas, the city government is just waiting for the reformulated Pfizer vaccine designed for the said age bracket.
“With the threat of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, we are getting ready for the vaccination of the minors between five to 11 years old,” said Treñas.
According to COVID-19 testing czar Secretary Vince Dizon and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez, the procured reformulated Pfizer vaccines will be coming in by the second or third week of January 2022.
Iloilo City is targeting a total of 60,000 minors aged five to 11 years old for the said vaccination.
The Food and Drug Authorization issued an emergency use approval for the lower dosage of the Pfizer vaccine for the age bracket.
The National Vaccination Operations Center will announce the exact vaccination schedule as soon as COVID-19 vaccines suitable for the ages five to 11 and appropriate syringes become available.
“While waiting for the vaccines to be rolled out for this pediatric group, we recommend that children complete their routine immunization to be protected from more contagious and fatal diseases like measles, rubella, tetanus, and diphtheria,” an advisory from the National Vaccination Operations Center read./PN
