Commission probes ‘delisting’ of Iloilo centenarians from program

ILOILO City – The National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) has launched an investigation into the alleged delisting of beneficiaries under the Expanded Centenarians Act of 2024 (Republic Act No. 11982) here.

In a letter dated March 4, 2025, addressed to City Administrator Melchor U. Tan, NCSC officer-in-charge Dr. Mary Jean P. Loreche confirmed the agency’s commitment to looking into the matter.

A complaint, filed by concerned citizens, claimed that a punong barangay had engaged in enlistment and delisting of beneficiaries under the program.

The letter also highlighted reports that an official had facilitated a cash payout on February 28 without proper coordination with the Office of the Local Chief Executive.

Dr. Loreche assured the city administrator that the NCSC would keep local authorities informed on the progress of the investigation.

Republic Act 11982 expands the benefits for Filipino centenarians, offering financial incentives to those reaching significant age milestones.

The complaint raised concerns regarding the transparency and fairness in the distribution of these benefits to qualified senior citizens./PN
