LABOR secretary Silvestre Bello III said companies and employers who allot at least 10 percent of their workforce for persons with disabilities (PWDs) will get an incentive from the Department of Labor and Employment.
These companies and employers will be given a moratorium on inspections for compliance with labor laws, Bello said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.
Bello said the law mandates that at least one percent of a company’s workforce should be comprised of PWDs.
“Sabi ko doon sa aming job fair, mga kapatid na PWD, sa halip na sumunod ka sa batas na 1 percent eh kung tumanggap ka ng 10 percent or more, bilang gantimpala ay magde-declare kami ng moratorium du’n sa establishment na ‘yon. Wala munang inspeksyon—’yung labor law, compliance inspection,” he said.
“Yun ang aming insentibo sa mga establishment na tatanggap ng more than 10 percent na PWD,” Bello added.
The Labor secretary said companies and employers experience inconvenience when DOLE conducts inspections to check on their payroll and other matters.
“Pag minsan naiistorbo sila ‘pag pinupuntahan sila sa kanilang establishment…Malaking inconvenience din sa kanila ‘yon,” Bello said.
However, he said the moratorium will be lifted should there be a complaint filed against the company or employer.
The moratorium also does not cover inspections to check on compliance with safety and health standards such as having a fire escape and a fire extinguisher, he added.
Bello said the law requires that companies and employers provide equipment and facilities for the convenience of PWDs.
The DOLE conducted a job fair for PWDs at the Quezon City Hall last Wednesday.
