MANILA
– President Rodrigo Duterte said he wanted major government projects under the
“Build, Build, Build” program finished before his term ends with Sangley Point
International Airport as priority.
Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said that
Duterte, in a courtesy call at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Beijing, China, told
Cavite local officials and companies involved in the airport project to finish
it in two years.
Panelo quoted Duterte saying, “Whatever your
plans, do it fast.”
Among those involved in the Sangley Point
International Airport project are Cavite Holdings, China Communication
Construction Co. (CCCC) and China Airport Construction Group Co. Ltd.
The President also met with some construction
industry delegates from the Philippines, who expressed their full support for
the administration’s “Build, Build, Build” program.
The industry delegates even suggested that a law
be crafted to ensure continuity in the implementation of major government
infrastructure projects.
The construction delegates also want the
administration to have a multi-year program to sustain the “Build, Build, Build”
program and streamline programs using wide use of electronic data.
Duterte have told them that he will ponder on
the issues raised by the delegates, and said he wants infrastructure projects finished
before his term ends because he is a man in a hurry.
The President also acknowledged that the
extortion activities of the New People’s Army is a cause for concern, and
assured the delegates the government will address the problem./PN
