ILOILO City – After drawing public criticism, the head of the Iloilo City COVID-19 Compliance Team resigned.
No less than Mayor Jerry Treñas announced the resignation of Fernando Jose “Boyet” Rico.
“It is with regret that I accept the resignation of Mr. Fernando Jose Rico as head of the Compliance Team. I thank Boyet for his work as head of compliance team for more than a year,” said Treñas.
Despite his resignation, however, Rico will remain as Treñas’ executive assistant for barangay affairs.
Rico got the ire of netizens for not immediately quarantining himself after he was swabbed; he instead went to a restaurant for lunch and even posted a photo of him with several companions.
Treñas said he reprimanded Rico and his team.
Rico, meanwhile, apologized.
“Gina-ako ko nga may sala ako. I know nga may protocol pero kinanglan ko lang gid magkaon kay kon malipong ako sa dalanon, dal-on ako sa ospital,” he said.
Following Rico’s resignation, Treñas appointed Nestor Canong as new compliance team head.
“I will make such reorganization as may be necessary,” said Treñas.
Canong is also the chairman of the Task Force on Morals and Values Formation here./PN
