‘NO ONE who conceals transgressions will prosper, but one who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.’ – Proverbs Chapter 28, verse 13.

I define a transgression as something that infringes or goes beyond the bounds of generally acceptable standards of behavior.
In late July, President Duterte gave his annual State of the National Address (SONA). He took the opportunity to express concern about the inability or unwillingness of our burgeoning telecommunications giants – PLDT/Smart and Globe to handle infrastructural requirements expeditiously. In the case of Globe, this was an issue which related to the timely development of cell towers which could transmit required data.
Globe’s CEO Ernest Cu responded quickly and explained that the lack of performance was due to red tape associated with the development of cell tower facilities.
Quite right.
I believe that SONA is a forum in which the President can bat on behalf of the consumer who is not able, generally, to cope adequately with large organizations who do not always provide a satisfactory service.
Like many families, we have, over the years, made substantial advances to our telecommunications facilities. Consumers do not have the upper hand when communicating with large organizations which means the latter can commit transgressions with impunity.
Our most recent experience with Globe was on Aug. 20 and 25 when we arranged for Globe personnel to visit our home in order to enhance our telecommunications environment. With no explanation, Globe did not arrive. We are used to this. Over the years, this has become a regular feature of our relationship with Globe.
The Book of Proverbs is mistaken. Transgressions, whether concealed or not, do not result in a lack of prosperity. Globe is doing very well.

‘The Law: It has honored us, may we honor it.’ – Daniel Webster: Speech at the Charleston Bar Dinner, 10 May 1847
There is, of course, not nearly enough space for the transgressions of corporate lawyers. These will have to wait until we have the patience and determination to cope with the silly sophistry of our legal brethren./PN
