CONCEPCION, Iloilo — Taking a big step towards a greener future, Palm Concepcion Power Corporation (PCPC) held a groundbreaking ceremony for its 5.1-megawatt (MW) Solar Power Facility on Aug. 16.

The ceremony coincided with PCPC’s celebration of its seventh anniversary of commercial operations with the theme “PCPC Going Green @ 7.”

Province of Iloilo’s Gov. Arthur Defensor Jr. led the groundbreaking ceremony together with the local government unit of Concepcion, officials of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, service provider Northeast No. 1 Electric Power Construction Co. Ltd. (NEPC), and PCPC’s Board of Directors and Senior Management.

“The ‘going green’ initiative of PCPC is very important to us because it is an alignment with the direction of the province and the country in the area of energy,” Defensor said.

Defensor also cited Iloilo’s Renewable Energy Ordinance of 2022 which aims to develop and promote renewable energy in the province.

“More than the convergence and doing your part in taking care of our environment, PCPC is a very important contribution to the way of the government, way of life in the province (of Iloilo), and the whole country,” Defensor added.

In addition to reducing its carbon footprint, the solar farm will also provide a reliable source of renewable energy for the PCPC power plant. It is scheduled to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2023.

PCPC is the owner of the 135MW Circulating Fluidized Bed Combustion Power Plant in Concepcion, Iloilo./PN
