Concepcion sees spike in tourism over Holy Week

ILOILO – Tourists flocked to the various islands and beaches of Concepcion town this Holy Week.

The Municipal Tourism Office recorded the highest number of arrivals on Maundy Thursday.

According to data, 691 guests were recorded on Maundy Thursday, accumulating P19,680 in ecological fees (EF).

This fee, charged to tourists for the use and enjoyment of the environment and natural resources, is allocated for environmental management, protection, remediation, and rehabilitation.

On Good Friday, the number of guests dropped to 264, with EF totaling P6,525.

The number of tourists surged again on Black Saturday, reaching 429 guests and gathering P12,415 in EF.

And Easter Sunday saw the smallest number of visitors, with only 65 guests recorded.

Overall, the municipality collected P39,700 in ecological fees over the four-day long weekend.

Concepcion is a 3rd-class municipality in the province of Iloilo’s 5th district. It is located on the north-eastern part of Panay Island, together with some 16 other, smaller islands that host beautiful white sand beaches and sandbars./PN
