FORMER Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque was declared in contempt and ordered detained for 24 hours today by the House of Representatives because of lying to excuse himself from the hearing conducted by its Quadcomm last week.

Congress reacted to a motion made by Rep. Ron Salo who said that Roque deliberately misrepresented to the four committees investigating the illegal acts of Philippine Online Gaming Operators (POGOs) by saying that he had to attend to a court hearing in the City of Manila on the same day that the committee meeting was being held in Bacolor, Pampanga.

The Regional Trial Court of Manila has issued a certification that lawyer Harry Roque did not make an appearance in any of its courts on August 16, 2024.

Roque said that he instead stayed home because he was not feeling well. While he was found guilty of contempt, Roque’s former House colleagues imposed the lowest imposable penalty of detention for one day in consideration of his service to the legislative body.

Roque’s wife Mylah was also invited to Quadcomm hearing but submitted a medical certificate as an excuse for not attending./PN
