ILOILO City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) confirmed the designation of Jeck Conlu as head of the newly created Public Safety and Transportation Management Office (PSTMO).

As a department, PSTMO will be overseeing four city government bodies – Transportation Management and Traffic Regulation Office (TMTRO), Police Auxiliaries, Special Services Unit (SSU), and Task Force on Anti-Squatting and Illegal Structures (TF Asis).

According to Conlu, there will be an overhaul of the four offices.

On Wednesday, he met with all the office heads sought updates about their programs.

He also discussed with them the structure of their new department.

“We want to introduce a new system, innovations,” said Conlu.

He described the TMTRO as a “big challenge.”

“We will review the traffic situation in Iloilo City as well as all the personnel and procedures,” said Conlu.

The screening for new traffic aides will be stringent while the existing ones will be made to undergo trainings and seminars.

TMTRO chief Robert Foerster previously said around 291 traffic aides would be made to take an examination to test their knowledge on traffic rules and regulations.

“There will be a re-assessment if they are still deserving nga ara sila sa field. As per instruction ni Mayor (Jed Patrick Mabilog), indi kita magduha-duha nga islan sila kon makita nga indi sila effective sa pag-manage sang aton roads,” said Conlu.

Traffic aides 50 years old and older will also be required to undergo physical checkup at the City Health Office.

While head of the PSTMO, Conlu will continue to serve as chairman of the Iloilo City Urban Poor Affairs Office (ICUPAO). He said it will also have an overhaul.

“Wala kita nagapangako nga kaya naton solbaron ang tanan dira but definitely we will be implementing sang bag-o nga mga programs and systems,” said Conlu./PN
