ILOILO City – Construction industry players in this part of the country underwent a one-day seminar on safety, product standards and quality as one way of ensuring that only the prescribed construction materials are being utilized in their various projects.
The training held on Sept. 21 here was co-facilitated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Iloilo. It was held as a prelude to the upcoming Consumer Welfare Month celebration held every October.
It gathered around 130 participants from four associations of manufacturers and distributors of construction materials. These included steel and deformed bars, flat glass, ceramic tiles and black iron/galvanized iron, pipes and tubes manufacturers and distributors and holders of Product Standard (PS) licensees.
Engr.DiosdadoCadena Jr., officer-in-charge of DTI regional office and at the same time provincial director of DTI Iloilo, said the seminar was very timely because of the construction boom in Western Visayas.
He cited the ongoing road repair and rehabilitation, real estate development and even government infrastructure investments all happening in Iloilo.
âIt was very educational. Itâs their way of also policing their own ranks,â he said. (PNA)
