BACOLOD City – A construction worker has been killed on Cattleya Street, Purok Mabinuligon.
The police have yet to delve into the circumstances surrounding the stabbing of the 22-year-old Alex Canillo, but Chief Inspector Charles Gever said they were looking into a drug deal “double-cross” as motive.
Four suspects ganged up on Canillo, a resident of Barangay Mansilingan, around 12:50 p.m. on Thursday.
Canillo died of stab wounds on the throat. Police Station 7 said his attackers used a pointed steel tube.
Among the suspects were Mark Cosio and Joshua Fernandez. The other two were unidentified.
Cosio, also a construction worker from Mansilingan, was arrested in a follow-up operation, while the rest managed to escape.
Police recovered from Cosio two sachets of suspected shabu.
From what the police have gathered so far, Cosio got back at Canillo, whose group shot Fernandez following a misunderstanding. But later the police learned the incident could be drug-related.
Cosio was also accused of stabbing another person 15 times in 2007 and charged with robbery in 2015, said Gever.
Detained at the Police Station 7 lockup cell, he was facing murder and drug possession charges./PN
