ILOILO City – Motels, lodging houses and similar accommodation establishments traditionally fully booked on Valentine’s Day were unusually less crowded yesterday.
The chief of the city government’s Task Force on Morals and Values Formation (TMVF) believed the strict enforcement of one quarantine requirement may have something to do with it – that customers must fill out health declaration cards and contact tracing forms.
Filling them out, however, would mean customers must disclose their identities. Some say this is an invasion of privacy.
TMVF chief Nestor Canong said motels, lodging houses and similar accommodation establishments here were generally compliant with community quarantine protocols, “especially on requiring their customers to fill out health declaration cards and contact tracing forms.”
The task force conducted inspections yesterday.
Canong said even on “ordinary days”, the health declaration cards and contact tracing forms appear to be discouraging prospective clients from entering these accommodation establishments.
Not counting inns and pension houses, Canong said, there were around 17 lodging houses operating here – 11 in Arevalo district, three in La Paz, two in Molo, and one in Mandurriao.
Canong said accommodation establishments also follow Regulation Ordinance No. 2015-447 which prohibits them from accepting minors.
Canong said the task force’s inspection of accommodation establishments would be sustained.
“Sige-sige kita, na-highlight lang subong kay ti Valentine’s Day,” he said./PN
