BACOLOD City – A councilor asked the city government to convert a terminal building in Barangay Alijis into a modern technical-vocational school.

Supposed to host southbound passengers and food stalls, the P25-million building has been “idle or insignificant” for more than a decade now, said Councilor Bartolome Orola.

Orola requested the City Administrator’s Office, through the Office of the City Mayor, to study the possible conversion of the building.

The structure was built using a P15-million congressional budget for then congressman John Orola Jr. (now city administrator) and a P10-million local government budget under then mayor Oscar Verderflor, said the councilor.

“[But] the existing food and southbound terminal no longer satisfy or serve its purpose,” Councilor Orola said.

Situated next to public schools, subdivisions, residential areas, and two main highways, it is an ideal site for a technical-vocational school, he said.

Converting the structure will “greatly enhance and further improve the economic and revenue resource of the barangay,” said Orola./PN
