BACOLOD City – A farmers’ association urged the local government to convert the city’s solid waste into electricity.

The amount of garbage Bacolod produces every day is big enough to generate electrical energy, according to Engr. DaniloNemenzo.
“A minimum of 120 tons of solid waste [can be processed] into 5 megawatts,” said the vice president of the SipalayHinoba-anCandoni Upland Farmers Association (Shicufa) Global Enviroclean Corp.

Bacolod City, he claimed, produces more than 300 tons a day.

Nemenzo told Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran on Wednesday they want to put up an energy conversion plant near the dumpsite.
The engineer assured Familiaranthe facility will not involve incineration and is thus environment-friendly.

Nemenzo explained that the collected solid waste will be converted into energy without producing smoke or fire by subjecting them to shredding and extreme heating at 400degrees Celsius.

Shicufahas started in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental, but will have to cover nearby local governments because the solid waste collected from the town have fallen short of the requirement.

Once it has established its facility, Shicufa will give the host local government the by-products of the process, including asphalt and organic fertilizer, and provide free Wi-Fi and a dump truck, said Nemenzo.

He asked the vice mayor to present their idea to the SangguniangPanlungsod.
Familiaran said he will bring up the matter during their regular session./PN
