MANILA – Creamline Cool Smashers are back as queens of Premier Volleyball League. They beat,25-18, 15-25, 25-23, 25-16 the Petro Gazz Angels in Game 2 of the 2022 Open Conference Finals last night at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City.
Alyssa Valdez spearheaded the offense with 20 points to be hailed as Finals MVP.
Jessica Galanza supplied 17 markers as the Cool Smashers notched its fourth PVL tiara in six finals appearances.
From a tight third set escape, the Cool Smashers were decisive to finish off the Angels. They opened an 18-12 advantage in the fourth set behind Valdez and Galanza.
Petro Gazz knocked a few times before Celine Domingo stretched the lead for the Creamline at 23-16 on off a block hit.
Valdez then moved the Cool Smashers closer to the championship at 24-16 with a strong attack before Domingo clinched the crown for them with a quick hit.
Prior to Game 2, Cool Smashers’ Diana Carlos was hailed as the 2022 PVL Open Conference Most Valuable Player following her consistent contributions for the Cool Smashers the entire conference.
Apart from the highest individual citation, the former University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons star was also awarded with best opposite spiker honors.
Also getting individual awards were Cignal HD Spikers’ Frances Xinia Molina as Best Outside Spiker, Rosely Doria and Marivic Meneses as Best Middle Blockers and Angel Cayuna as Best Setter.
Angels’ Gretchel Soltones, who suffered an injury in Game 1 of the Finals, was among the receipient of Best Outside Spiker and Dawn Macandili of F2 Logistics Cargo Movers as Best Libero.
Meanwhile, HD Spikers leaned on the exploits of Rachel Ann Daquis and Molina as they stave off Choco Mucho Flying Titans to capture the conference’s bronze medal./PN
