ILOILO City – A member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) was hospitalized after he accidentally shot himself on Tuesday, March 18, in St. Therese Village, Barangay Dayhagan, Carles, Iloilo.
The victim identified as Patrolman EJ Boy Vio, assigned at the Regional Maritime Unit 6 (RMU-6), was confined at West Visayas State University Medical Center in Mandurriao district after he sustained a gunshot wound on his jaw.
“Our victim was confined in a hospital right now and he is conscious,” said Police Major Sanny Boy Garnace of Carles Municipal Police Station.
Garnace said the incident happened at around 5:45 a.m. while the cop was waking together with a resident.
He unloaded his service firearm, a caliber .9mm pistol, but it accidentally went off, hitting his jaw.
Recovered from the scene were a slug and a gun owned by Vio.
Garnace added that Vio was in the area monitoring their target person for possible operation./PN
