Cop faces probe for ‘shooting’ man

ILOILO City – A police officer allegedly shot a 33-year-old man in Barangay Abilay, Oton Iloilo.

The Police Regional Office 6 will investigate the conduct of Patrolman Romeo Roldan of Barangay Pandac, Pavia, Iloilo.

Spokesperson Police Lieutenant Colonel Gilbert Gorero said Roldan was tagged suspect in the shooting of Bryan Castro on May 27.

Prior to the incident, Roldan figured in a heated argument with Castro, according to Police Staff Sergeant Alex Bene Esteves of Oton police station. Castro’s friend whose name was not disclosed tried to pacify the two but Roldan whipped the latter using a .45-caliber pistol.

“The victim and his friend ran after seeing that the police was armed with a gun but the suspect shot the victim hitting on the back of his body,” Esteves said.

The victim was confined at Western Visayas Medical Center in Mandurriao district.

Roldan meanwhile managed to evade arrest and is still at large as of this writing.

“If proven that Roldan is guilty, he will be slapped with an administrative case aside from criminal case,” said Gorero./PN
